ONE DAY CONFERENCE ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE – NEW DIRECTIONS CALIFORNIA
The Friends Committee on Legislation of California (FCLCA) views substance abuse as a serious medical and social issue. We advocate for substance abuse treatment and non-sensationalist education and against punitive measures. FCLCA is pleased to have signed on as a Conference Partner for New Directions California, an event co-sponsored by the California Society of Addiction Medicine and the Drug Policy Alliance on July 8 in Los Angeles.
New Directions California, a one-day conference on July 8, 2010 at the California Endowment’s Center for Healthy Communities in downtown Los Angeles, will bring together 300 physicians, public health officers, law enforcement and other stakeholders to participate in a series of conversations between internationally and locally prominent experts on best practices and emerging trends in California, around the country and across the globe.
We’re excited to partner with this event which will bring a number of high-profile policy makers from Vancouver (Donald MacPherson, the city’s former drug policy coordinator, & Kash Heed, chief constable and now legislator in the British Columbia Parliament, among others) and Portugal (from the country’s drug control agency) and from across the country (including Dr Ruth Finkelstein from the New York Academy of Medicine, and Fred Brason from Project Lazarus in North Carolina) to share what those places have been able to achieve through health-centered approaches to drug use.
Admission to the conference is free, but you must register in advance:
